Lessons from Western North Carolina: A Call to Action

Last week, I had the privilege of taking a group from our leadership team to Western North Carolina. We visited Asheville, Old Fort, Swannanoa, and Bat Cave—areas deeply impacted by Hurricane Helene. The devastation was overwhelming: homes reduced to rubble, businesses washed away, and families left with little more than hope to hold on to.

Seeing such destruction and despair puts life into perspective. It makes you stop and appreciate the life you’ve been given—the simple blessings we often take for granted, like a roof over our heads and the comfort of community.

It also serves as a stark reminder that life is about more than the things we accumulate. Stuff comes and goes, and when it’s gone, what remains is what truly matters—our relationships, our faith, and the way we care for one another.

One thing that struck me about the people we met was their resilience. These communities are strong, determined to rebuild and move forward despite unimaginable loss. Their spirit is a testament to the power of community and the strength found in standing together during hard times.

This is why giving and generosity are so important. Being human means having the empathy to step up when others are in need. The road to recovery will be long, requiring resources, time, sweat, and patience. But it’s a road worth traveling if it means restoring hope and helping these communities get back on their feet.

At Henson Heating and Cooling, we’re committed to doing our part. Whether it’s through financial contributions, volunteering our time, or simply showing up, we believe in the importance of giving and going. It’s not just about fixing homes or installing units—it’s about serving people and being a part of something bigger than ourselves.

If there’s one takeaway from our time in Western North Carolina, it’s this: we’re all in this together. Let’s commit to supporting one another with open hearts and willing hands. Together, we can make a difference.
